We snared this one!
Lighting has become a new obsession for me, and I drag my husband along.
I’m always looking for items to turn into a unique light fixture. See the post Kathy wrote about me and my fascination with lighting. Pinterest has some great ideas; drum lamps are one of them.
When Kathy was shopping with our favorite Craigslist seller Stephanie, a set of drums caught her eye. She made my day when she sent me a picture and text asking if I wanted them.
Bob and I quickly made a pendant light with the smallest drum. I have very little knowledge of drums, so I don’t know the correct name for this particular style of drum.
The next two sizes were too big and heavy to make hanging lamps, so my original thought was upcycling them into a table.
Recently shopping at my local Goodwill, I came across a metal tripod stand. I didn’t know what it was for, but I immediately thought about making a lamp. Once I brought it home, my son informed me that it was actually a stand for the medium sized drum I already had! This made my job easier because now I didn’t have to find a shade for the tripod, and it made my lamp project that much cooler.
Bob and I observed the drum and stand and quickly came up with a plan.
A little bit of drilling to run the electrical wire for the lamp kit, removing of the skin on the bottom of the drum with a razor blade, installing the lamp kit was the last step. Luckily for us, the center rod of the tripod was hollow which made running the wire easy.
We are so pleased with the end result. This lamp is so cool, and the height can be adjusted.
I love it when a plan turns into a BETTER plan!
Our son kept the snare from the original set of drums Kathy bought, but I think I’m taking it back! (hehe) I can’t help myself.
