Vintage Printer Trays: One of the best sellers in our Etsy Shop!
These trays are divided into compartments to hold different letters of the alphabet for old printing presses. A far cry from what we now produce on our phones, in our hands, with our thumbs…
We have a plethora of ideas on how to upcycle these wooden gems—they are ideal for getting things organized. We’re hoping to share a series of upcycled printer tray projects this year.
Today we’re starting with Karen’s first upcycled printer tray project: a wine cork printer tray organization board.
Karen had been given a container of wine corks and was waiting for inspiration. Eyeing a printer tray, she found her spark!
She started this upcycling project by using a multi-function power tool to remove one of the dividers on a side of the tray.
Once that first divider was removed, it was fairly easy to remove the rest with just a pair of pliers.
After removing one section, Karen applied several coats of chalkboard paint to the flat back board.
In the other 2/3 of the tray, Karen used a hot glue gun to attach a series of wine corks into the divided spaces.
The chalkboard is perfect for writing notes, and the cork board is great for hanging messages, papers and pictures.
This wall organizer measures 32″ x 16 5/8″ x 1 3/8″ deep.

Very cute project. My dad had some of these trays when I was growing up. He kept old pennies in them. I have no idea whatever happened to them- maybe I’ll ask!
