I don’t know how we got so lucky but the rain avoided The Summer Market this year. I kept receiving text messages from friends and family about how the rain was heading our way and it just never happened! Thank goodness.
It did rain overnight but we were prepared and purchased the side panels for our tent. We sealed that baby up well on Friday night and when we arrived Saturday morning everything was protected and dry. Phew!
Before I talk about how great The Summer Market was, I just need to say that it was the most exhausting 36 hours Karen and I have ever worked. From the moment I picked up the 15′ Uhaul truck at 9am on Friday until I returned it on Saturday at 9pm, it was PURE WORK.
It was FUN. Here we are with our sweet friends from Metheny Weir Painted Finishes.
It was a BIG success for us.
It was the most organized and well-run event we have participated in so far.
With that, we were pretty certain it would be our last outdoor market. Simply because they are exhausting. NOT because they aren’t worth it.
And then we received this email from the lovely ladies at The Summer Market a few days after:
Good Morning Friends,Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for your participation in the Summer Market this year. It was a successful event all around and we hope it was everything you wished it would be!As you know, the Summer Market is a fundraiser. 100% of the proceeds go to our non-profit “Girls Give Back”. This year we will select a local family in need and give them a mini home make-over. Be sure to watch our Girls Give Back Facebook Page to see details about the project. When we are not doing the Gift of Home, we hold Random Acts of Kindness days. One of these was held during the Market this weekend. We, along with our children, each gave $50 randomly to customers at the event. $1400 of our proceeds went back into the Market! We wanted to share a response we received yesterday and let you know that this festival is not just about selling goods…it’s about kindness. Thank you SO MUCH for being a part of it.Wishing you all a wonderful year…xoErin & KristenI would like to thank the two young ladies who came up to me at the Summer Market on Friday evening and put the huge smile on my face. They bewildered me with their kindness by choosing me with their random act of kindness. The girls handed me $50.00 and told me they wanted me to buy myself something pretty. When you walked away all I could do was look at all the people who were there and wondered why did you choose me? I wanted to say how much it meant to me. I have recently had surgery and have been feeling a bit down. I am a single mom who is self-employed and things have not always been easy. Your kindness overwhelmed me. I’m still smiling! Your act of kindness made such a difference. Thank you from bottom of my heart.Girls Give Back Response:
AWESOME!!!! That is why we do it…simply to bring out that smile. We hope you found something special for yourself at the Market! Her Response:
I did! I got a beautiful wind spinner. I’ve always wanted one but it’s not something I would have been able to splurge on. When I look out my window and smile I’ll be reminded of their kindness.
Needless to say, the charity aspect of this event tugged at our hearts and we are seriously considering participating next year…. if they’ll have us. 🙂
