Once in a while we get to use our creativity on a piece of furniture. It’s nice to explore our own ideas with furniture and of course, Wise Owl Chalk Synthesis Paint. We can usually find the time to do this in between working on custom orders.
We recently brought this vintage dresser into our studio and Karen had some time to work on it.
Karen loves color and thank goodness because I will often go for neutrals.
I love what she did with this piece!
Karen used “Beeswax” for the body and “Smokey Quartz” on the drawer fronts and dresser top.
Beeswax is a beautiful golden yellow but if you’re painting with a chalk-type paint product and a color is a little too vibrant for you, dark wax is the ideal way to tone down the color. After applying clear wax and buffing, Karen used “Umber Hemp Oil” wax to do just that.
Instead of using the original wooden knobs, Karen added pretty clear knobs for a more modern and feminine look. And to add even more creativity and flair, Karen stenciled a pretty pattern called “Temple Tiles” on the top of the dresser.
Sam, our intern turned part-timer pointed out to Karen that the pattern on the front of the dresser was an exact match to the stencil pattern. Karen said it was not intentional. We all laughed that Karen should have given herself credit for that!
This dresser is the ideal height for a changing table, great if you have a big entryway and you’re looking for a piece with lots of storage.
Or use it just what it was intended for…a bedroom dresser. The original casters, well they are a bonus. 🙂
This made-over vintage dresser is available in our shop today. $275. We’re open today and tomorrow (Fridays and Saturdays) from 10am to 4pm.
If you haven’t stopped by in a while, we have a few new items in the shop too. We’re also fully stocked on Wise Owl Chalk Synthesis Paint, waxes and supplies!
Have a great day! -Kathy
